Description
Zoom on the Generac GP9200E
In short, the Generac GP9200E is a powerful portable generator adequately designed for:
- Homeowners who wish to power almost all appliances in their house under any circ*mstances
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Generac GP9200E
Featuring a 459 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, the Generac GP9200E operates using gasoline, providing 120/240V, with a running wattage of 9,200W and a starting wattage of 11,250W.
Featuring a manual recoil starter system and a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included), this generator offers flexibility in starting.
The fuel capacity of 7.9 gallons allows the GP9200E to operate for around 8.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.93 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel features 5 AC outlets as follows:
Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
With its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the GP9200E is configured to be transfer switch ready, allowing straightforward connection to your breaker box to supply backup power to your home during outages.
Portability
At L27.2 x W27 x H26.5 in, the traditional open frame structure of the Generac GP9200E ensures stability while facilitating convenient maintenance access to components and promoting air cooling. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 213 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀9.5") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
The GP9200E's control panel
For easy status and activity monitoring of the GP9200E, its control panel integrates a digital data center, offering insights into the lifetime run hours.
The generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off.
The GP9200E also benefits from Generac’s COsense® carbon monoxide monitoring. This technology senses and manages CO output and shuts down the unit when necessary, to protect you from CO poisoning.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Generac GP9200E also comes with some accessories: oil, extension cord and funnel are included.
The Generac GP9200E versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Generac GP9200E compare to generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).
- Concerning weight, the Generac GP9200E weighs only just 213 pounds, distinguishing itself as one of the lighter generators amidst the 8500 to 9500 rated wattage range. Weight-conscious users may find the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc appealing, as it is one of the top contenders in this power range, weighing just 187.4 pounds.
- Regarding its autonomy, the GP9200E can run for around 8.5 hours at a 50% load, aligning it with the lower performers in its power range. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, which is able to run for around 12 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This generator is not fuel-efficient compared to devices of similar output: its estimated fuel consumption stands at 0.93 GPH at a 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.66 GPH, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is a device you could look out for.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Generac GP9200E vs Generac XT8500EFI.

What is the noise rating of the GP9200E?
Due to the lack of standardization in noise emission measurement, Generac does not provide their units' noise levels.
Is there an LP conversion kit for GP9200E with the 459cc engine (Asked March 27, 2023)
There are no official conversion kits. You may find third-party ones, but we cannot recommend them. Modifying the unit fuel system would void your warranty, and would be an emission violation. You may want to check our full list of dual fuel generators, which are designed to run on both gasoline and propane.
