Here are all the characters leaving NBC's cop drama Chicago PD in 2024 (2024)

NBC's Chicago PD has kicked off its new season continuing to follow the actions of the police officers in the windy city.

But a few fan-favourite characters might be appearing in the cop drama for the final time after some actors quit the series.

What is Chicago PD about?

Chicago P.D.premiered as a mid-season replacement to Chicago Fire in January 2014.

The action drama television series was created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, and has recently been renewed for a 12th season.

The show follows the uniformed patrol officers and the Intelligence Unit of the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department as they pursue the city's criminals, led by detective sergeant Hank Voight (played by Jason Beghe).

NBC explains about the show: "Chicago P.D. is a riveting police drama about the men and women of the Chicago Police Department's elite Intelligence Unit, combating the city's most heinous offense - organized crime, drug trafficking, high-profile murders and beyond."

Who is leaving Chicago PD 2024?

Chicago P.D. returned to the screens with its 11th season on January 17, 2024.

During its decade-long run on TV, the show has seen many cast members come and go, and this year isn't any different.

The season finale is set to premiere on May 22, 2024, and fans can expect to bid farewell to one cast member.

Hailey Upton

Hailey Upton Halstead, played by Tracy Spiridakos, is a homicide detective who joined the squad in season four of the series.

Upton replaced Erin Lindsay after her move to New York City, and married Linday's ex, Jay Halstead, played by Jesse Lee Soffer.

Spiridakos started off as a recurring character before being promoted to the main cast in season five.

She stayed with Chicago PD for seven seasons before announcing her departure from the show.

Co-starJason Beghe, who portrays Voight, told NBC: "First of all, she’s somebody who I love and care about and respect.

She's part of my life and she's part of our show.

"She will always be part of the shop.

"Even if she doesn't come back and work with us, she's part of my life and she's part of our show.

"You know, she's changed the show, and therefore even going forward, whether she's in the episode or not, she'll be part of the show."

He continued: "I’m just grateful for everything that she has done and continues to do."

Another cast member, Marina Squerciati, shared a heartwarming picture of Spiridakos and LaRoyce Hawkins, known as Atwater in the show, on her Instagram.

The image shows the two co-stars hugging on the set of Chicago PD.

Squerciati captioned the post:"Squeezing in all the Tracy hugs we can get."

As the season nears its end, fans have been speculating how detective Upton will be written off.

Some suggested that Upton will be forced to move to a new department after breaking a protocol just like her predecessor, Lindsay.

Others have suggested that Upton will follow her ex-husband, Halstead, who is investigating a cartel in Bolivia, following Soffer's exit in season 10.

Chicago PD airs on Wednesday nights at 10pm ET on NBC.
